Hamilton’s engineers work ‘overnight’ to fix BakuGP problem

Lewis Hamilton has been frustrated with the lack of pace from his Mercedes at the BakuGP free practice but says his engineers work overnight to fix it.

That is despite his Mercedes Bottas setting the fastest time in FP1 almost half a second quicker than Daniel Ricciardo in the Red Bull. Hamilton finished fourth and it got no better in FP2.Daniel Ricciardo, recorded the best lap of the day while Kimi Raikkonen took second.Max Verstappen completed the top three, leaving Bottas and Hamilton just below.

The practice does not make good reading for Mercedes ahead of the qualifying today and Hamilton says he demands answers to try and close the gap to his teammate and the others. BakuGP

“Overall, we weren’t quick enough today,” said Hamilton.

“Both Red Bull and Ferrari seem to be ahead of us at the moment.

“We’ve got some work to do. BakuGP

“I’m going to be knocking on the doors of all the engineers overnight so that we can hopefully make the right changes.”

Mercedes’ technical director James Allison said pretty much the same.

“We’ve got a lot more to do tonight in order to be able to take the fight to a very fast Red Bull,” Allison said. BakuGP

“But we have plenty of directions to head in.

“It was a day of learning at this very unusual track but we’ve made progress.”
