LEWIS HAMILTON has confirmed he is ready to commit his future to Mercedes beyond 2018.

The F1 star wrapped up the fourth World Drivers’ Championship of his career this season after fighting off Sebastian Vettel.

And that title was the third he’s secured since moving to Mercedes from pit-lane rivals McLaren ahead of the 2013 campaign.

Hamilton is under contract with the German constructors for another year and has previously been tipped to drive for Ferrari one day.The 32-year-old, who missed out on the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award on Sunday night, has now revealed talks over extending his spell with Mercedes are ongoing.

“2018 is not the last year with Mercedes,” explained Hamilton while appearing on Italian TV show Che Tempo Che Fa.

“We are talking about the future, there will be a new contract, for sure.”

Presenter Fabio Fazio alluded to Ferrari’s interest in getting him on-board throughout the show.

And Hamilton admitted red, which the Italian constructors use, is the colour of his private jet because it’s his favourite.

“It’s red, yes, it’s my favourite colour,” he said.

Hamilton will be looking to get his F1 title defence off to the best possible start at the Australian Grand Prix next March.
